25. PRAYERS FOR DEFENCE FORCE CHAPLAINS (Defence Force Chaplaincy Committee)

That the Assembly resolve to

encourage Uniting Church Congregations and people to offer Special prayers for our Chaplains and other Defence Force Personnel on the Sunday nearest to Remembrance Day.

Rationale:

Our Governments at times call on the Defence Force to undertake some very difficult and highly dangerous tasks. When that happens chaplains go with the other Defence Force Members to give them spiritual and other support. This is also at times quite onerous and can and has caused high levels of stress to our chaplains.

The Anglican Church and some other denominations have adopted the Sunday nearest to Remembrance day as Defence Force Sunday. Our Defence Force Chaplains and The Assembly Defence Force Committee believe it would be good if on that Sunday Congregations and Uniting Church people could be encouraged to offer special prayers for Defence Force Personnel and in particular our chaplains.
